Canada Day in North Dundas

SOUTH MOUNTAIN -- Yes, the HST arrives tomorrow (Thurs., July 1), but more importantly, the Township of North Dundas will be celebrating Canada Day.

Festivities get underway at 8 am inside the agricultural hall at the South Mountain Fairgrounds with a breakfast served by township Mayor Alvin Runnalls and his councillors, as well as Stormont, Dundas, and South Glengarry (SD&SG) MP Guy Lauzon.

At the same time, the annual baseball tournament begins. Eight teams will compete throughout the day for the "A" and "B" titles. At 12 pm, a home run hitting contest will take place. The cost is $5 for three balls.

Friends of the South Mountain Library will be hosting a book sale until 2 pm, while the silent auction inside the agricultural hall is open until 7 pm.

Other events include South Nation Conservation's eco-adventure educational program, an ice cream eating contest, circus delights with air bounces and a magic show, an Italian supper from 5 to 7 pm, and a cake cutting ceremony at 6 pm.

At approximately 9:50 pm, "O Canada" will be sung, and the fireworks show is expected to begin at 10 pm.
