Joseph Francis Bourrette

Joseph "Joe" Francis Bourrette, a lifelong resident of Morrisburg, died peacefully on Thurs., Aug. 15, 2002 at Winchester District Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 88.
He was the beloved husband of the late Laurette Pinard (1995), whom he married on May 24, 1948 at the old St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Morrisburg. They were married by Father Feeney.
Mr. Bourrette was born on Thurs., June 25, 1914 in Morrisburg, in the same house he lived all his life, to the late Albert Francis Bourrette and the late Lera Brown.
Loving father of Lera (Ernie) Schwindt of Gibsons, B.C. and Jo-Ann (James) Brown of RR 2 Newington. Dear grandfather of Richard, Stacey, Meghan and Aaryn and great-grandfather of Ethan, Jodie and Peyton. He will be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by granddaughter Sarah and sisters Nola Campbell, Evelyn LaPorte and Eliza Colquhoun.
Mr. Bourrette was an avid reader and gardener, as well as an outdoorsman. He enjoyed snowshoeing. He loved to sing and dance. As a young man, he worked at the Tack factory. He also worked as a pharmacist's apprentice. He was a diver for the old locks in Morrisburg and helped to search for drowning victims. He drove the ferry to Broder Island, and he worked for the Seaway from its opening in Iroquois until his retirement.
Mr. Bourrette had an infectious smile; he was very kind and caring, and was always a true gentleman.
He was a chartered member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Morrisburg.
The Knights of Columbus held a service on Sun., Aug. 18. Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Morrisburg on Mon., Aug. 19 with Father Sebastian Arikat presiding. Cremation with inurnment at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Morrisburg on Sat., Aug. 24.
Pallbearers were Frank Albert, Tom Coligan, David Millward, George Locke, and sons-in-law James Brown and Ernie Schwindt.
