Lois Bodnar
Lois Bodnar of Williamsburg died at home on May 20, 2003 after a brief illness. She was 65.
She is survived by husband John Bodnar, whom she married in Brantford on June 10, 1961.
She was born in Dunbar on April 23, 1938 to the late Grant Barkley and Mabel (nee Shay). She was raised in the Dunbar area. In 1956 she moved along with her family to Brantford, and resided there until 1999, when she and John moved back to the Williamsburg area.
In her early years, she worked in the housekeeping department at Winchester District Memorial Hospital. After moving to Brantford, she worked as a registered nurse's assistant a St. Joseph's Hospital for several years before retiring in 1997.
She will be remembered by daughter Mabel Bodnar of Williamsburg; and siblings Doreen (Bill) Balazs of Brantford and Russell Barkley of Brantford. She was predeceased by son John; and brothers Harold and Darcy Barkley.
She was the loving grandmother of David Poole. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. She was a special friend of Keith and Shirley Beckstead, and their family in Williamsburg.
She was an avid country music fan. She especially liked George Jones and she was a member of his fan club for many years. She enjoyed playing euchre and loved animals, especially horses.
Friends called at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on May 22. Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Morrisburg on May 23, officiated by Father Appelman. Interment was at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
Pallbearers were Keith Beckstead, Murray Shay, Jim McMillan, Bill Balazs, Don Campbell and Reg Shay.
Donations to the Community Care Access Centre or the Red Cross would be appreciated by the family.
