Allan MacKenzie
Allan MacKenzie passed away peacefully with his
family by his side at the Ottawa General Hospital on Dec. 23,
2003 following a brief illness.
He was born at North Nation Mills in Quebec on March 1, 1920.
His family moved to the farm on MacKenzie Road in South Dundas
Township when he was just three months old, and he resided there
for his entire lifetime.
He joined the army in 1939 and he served overseas from 1939-1945
as a member of the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. Following his
time in the army, his careers included farming, heavy machinery
operator, and school custodian. He especially enjoyed his job
as custodian at Elma Public School where he was well known for
his good-natured teasing of the staff. Throughout his life, he
enjoyed travelling in Northern Ontario and Quebec, and he especially
enjoyed taking long walks through the woods.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 47 years, Jean Barkley;
his daughters Helen Burke of Kingston and Bonnie MacKenzie of
Kitchener; his granddaughter Christine (Christopher) Wright of
Peterborough; his sister Evelyn Marker of Smiths Falls; and many
nieces and nephews throughout the country.
Interment of creamated remains will be at Maple Ridge Cemetery
in the spring. Memorial donations to Winchester District Memorial
Hospital or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral
Home in Williamsburg.
