Gordon Grant McMillan
Gord (Garney) McMillan died July 25, 2005 with his family at his side, after a hard fought battle with Parkinson's.
He was the loving husband for over 50 years of Mary (nee Seeley). He was the father of Sherry St. Pierre (D'Arcy), and Gary McMillan (Dana), grandfather of Tracey Brown (Allan), Nicole St.Pierre, Grant and Kristen McMillan, and great-grandfather to Jordyn Brown. Gord was born on June 27, 1933 in Williamsburg, to the late Frank and the late Hilda Garney (nee Casselman).
Gord leaves behind his brother Ross (Wanda) of Toronto, and his mother-in-law Margaret Seeley of Ogdensburg. Gord was brother-in-law of Irene Greer of Prescott, Doreen (Gordon) Vanston of Prescott, Betty (Russ) Casselman of RR3 Brockville, Joanne (Ron) Shannon of Prescott, Gloria (Gary) Whiteland of Brockville, Ronald (Donna) Seeley of Brockville, Joe Seeley of Brockville, Pauline (Keith) Armstrong of Hammond, New York, Bonnie (Pete) Bracy of St. Cloud, Florida, Brent (Janice) Seeley, Lee (Joanne) Seeley, and Linda Seeley, all of Ogdensburg. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Gord lived his life in Williamsburg, and grew up with a baseball bat and a hockey stick in his hands. An avid sportsman all his life, he played for many teams including the Williamsburg Pioneers for which he caught for 22 years, and also coached after that. He played broomball, golf, and also refereed hockey. He played hockey for the Morrisburg Combines which lead them to play in Newfoundland for the Allen Cup. He also was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Gord worked for Ontario Hydro for 39 years in the Forestry Division, and trained many new young people, he loved his job.
Gord's good nature and sportsman-like qualities were echoed many times, at his wake and funeral, as many friends, teammates, colleagues, and opposing teammates paid their respects with high admiration for him.
A celebration of Gord's life was the theme of his funeral, with eulogies given by his daughter Sherry, his granddaughter Tracey, life-long friend Doug Casselman, and his good friend Gerry Morrell. Gord loved life, family, friends, sports, and telling stories, and his funeral was just that, something Gord would have loved.
Friends called at the Marsden & McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on July 26 and July 27. The funeral service was held on July 27 at the funeral home with Rev. Norine Gullons officiating.
