Edna Brown
Edna Brown of Winchester, passed away on Sat.,
Sept. 23, 2006 at Winchester District Memorial Hospital. She was
83.
She was born in Winchester on July 24, 1923 to the late Harold
Black and the late Mabel Black (nee Merkley). She was the mother
of Sheila (Joe) Hopkins of Spencerville, Gary Black (Louella Smail)
of Morrisburg, Brenda Brown (Basil Young) of Winchester, and Beth
(Glen) Cleland of Winchester. She is survived by her sister Sybil
Merkley of Winchester. She was predeceased by a son Steven Brown,
sisters Alice Casselman, Audrey McGowan, Mona Marcell, and Frances
Hogg, and brothers Norman, Bert, and Gerald Black. She was the
special aunt of Aileen (Lyal) Kehoe of Williamsburg and the sister-in-law
of Eric Hogg of Peterborough. She will be fondly remembered by
nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Edna was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of the Winchester
area. She was an excellent cook and baker, and she enjoyed reading
and listening to gospel music.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg
on Mon., Sept. 25. The funeral was held at the funeral home on
Tues., Sept. 26 with Rev. Blair Patterson and Rev. Noreen Gullons
officiating, followed by interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery in
Chesterville. The pallbearers were Steve Hopkins, Paul Hopkins,
Jeff Hopkins, and Burke Cleland.
