John Barkley, a resident of Hill’s Trailer Park in Morrisburg for the past nine years, passed away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Mon., Jan. 15, 2018. He was 82.
John was born in Matilda Township on Feb. 3, 1935 to his parents, Jacob Roy and Estella Barkley (nee Murdock).
John is survived by his wife Judy Barkley (nee Shaver); his children, Kim Wheeler (Stewart) of Winchester and Steven Barkley (Kelly Hawker) of Williamsburg; his stepchildren, Rob Corry (Carol) of Morrisburg, Peter Corry of Cornwall, and Elizabeth “Toots” Dixon (Bart) of Cardinal; his sisters, Jenny Baldwin of Morrisburg, Velma Wood of Watertown, Wilda Marriner (Perry) of Chesterville and Velleda Gainer (Garry) of Dixons Corners and his sisters-in-law, Marian Michalicka of Mariatown and Carol Daisley of Iroquois. John will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Alison and Erin, and his step-grandchildren, Natalie and Kurtis. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Lorna Jean Barkley (nee Cooke); and his brothers Ray, Paul, and Don. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In his earlier years, John enjoyed camping in his motor home and stock car races. He also had a passion for his three Boston Terriers. He was a proud employee of Parmalat for over 25 years. He enjoyed his retirement by taking road trips, and sitting by the water in Morrisburg.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Thurs., Jan. 18 from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Fri., Jan. 19 at 1 pm with Rev. Janet Evans officiating. Spring interment of cremated remains will be at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
