Albert William Beckstead

Albert William Beckstead of Winchester passed away peacefully at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Mon., Dec. 13, 2010 in his 88th year.
Albert was born June 3, 1923 in Hulbert to Roy and Reta Beckstead. He was the third oldest and only son of seven children. He was the beloved husband of Pauline Tousant. He was the loving father of Evylin Beckstead, Kathy (Louis) Sirois, John, Allan, Greta (Dave) Stewart, and Lila. He was predeceased by son Roy Beckstead and daughter Pheobe Beckstead. He was the cherished grandfather of three. He was the dear brother of Ida (the late Glen) Kenny, and Hilda (the late Dick) Pittman, and was predeceased by sisters Fanny, Ruth, Greta, and Lola.
At the age of 16, he was conscripted to the war but was sent back a few years later due to his father passing away. At the age of 18, he raised his sisters and took over the family farm. Shortly after, he began to do custom crop thrashing. In 1959, he married Pauline, and they started to raise their own family. Three years later Albert and Pauline relocated to Inkerman from Hulbert where they began to build their own farm from the ground up. Throughout his life, Albert had a variety of different jobs, from road construction in Brockville, to making cheese in Hulbert, to transporting whey.
In 2003, he retired from farming and moved to Winchester. He was a loving and caring father whom we all will miss very much.
Friends paid their respects at the Daniels Funeral Chapels Inc. in Winchester on Wed., Dec. 15. The funeral service was held in the chapel of the funeral home on Thurs., Dec. 16 with Rev. Thurland Brown officiating, followed by interment at Spruce Haven Cemetery in Brinston.
