Blue Sox rip Rats 15-8 for win number 16

WINCHESTER – Down 5-1 after the first inning the Winchester Jr./Sr. Blue Sox scratched and clawed their way back, defeating the Cornwall River Rats 15-8 and stretching their undefeated string to a perfect 16-0.

Last Wednesday’s (July 19) rally at Morgan Field left the Sox with 16 wins, no losses, one game to play and the Upper Canada Little League Baseball playoffs ahead of them.

Cam Sherrer got the starting assignment against Cornwall and served up five runs on four hits and two walks. Seth Christoffersen worked the second stanza and was tapped for a run issuing three base on balls. Owen Richardson climbed the hill in the third and allowed a pair of runs on a hit and an error.

Winchester’s shutdown crew of Josh Armstrong (no runs, no hits) and closer Matt Roach (no runs, no hits two Ks) took over and retired the six River Rats they faced.

Three runs

Lucas Menard batted in the lead off spot for the Sox and plated three runs hitting a single and drawing three walks.

Winchester also received three-run performances from the bottom of in the order – Christoffersen (1B, 2 BB), Owen Richardson (2-1B, BB) and Eric Armstrong (3-1B).

Sherrer (BB), Mason McLeod (1B, 2-BB) and Josh Armstrong (BB) each crossed the plate once.

A five-run fifth inning secured win number 16 for Winchester as Christoffersen (BB), Richardson (1B), Eric Armstrong (1B), Menard (BB) and Sherrer (BB) made the circuit.
