Freida Evelyn Coons (nee Fawcett) passed awaypeacefully at Dundas Manor in Winchester on Tues., Jan. 1, 2008.She was 84.
She was the beloved wife of Hugh Coons for 59 years. She was bornon June 1, 1923 to William Fawcett and Lola (nee Allison). Shewas the loving mother of Allison of Iroquois, and Carolyn (Martin)of Palgrave, and the late William. She was the cherished grandmotherof Kirk, Korrine (Darryl), Paul, and Scott, as well as a lovinggreat-grandmother to Emma and Ava. She was the dear sister ofAllison (Jean), Roy (Shirley), and Ralph (Mary), and was predeceasedby brothers Keith and Gordon.
She was born and raised in Mountain Township. She married HughCoons and settled on their farm where they raised three children.She was actively involved in the United Church Women, Women’sInstitute, and the South Nation Conservation Authority – in particularthe Cass Bridge Park. Through these associations she developedmany life long friends. She will be forever remembered as compassionate,caring, loving, proud, dignified, confident, and quick witted,with a great sense of humour, and a love for life and all it hadto offer.
The funeral service was held at Daniels Funeral Chapels in Winchesteron Fri., Jan. 4 and was followed by a reception at the WinchesterUnited Church. Interment was at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.The pallbearers were Kirk Hutt, Darryl Acres, Paul Hemy, ScottHemy, Danny Johnstone, and Graham Link.
