Hugh Milton Coons

Hugh Milton Coons passed away peacefully at the Dundas Manor in Winchester on Tues., Sept. 24, 2013. He was 92.
He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Freida Evelyn (nee Fawcett). Hugh was born on Oct. 17, 1920, to Sherwood Coons and Grace (nee MacMillan). He was the loving father of Allison of Iroquois, Carolyn (Martin) of Palgrave, and the late William. He was the cherished grandfather of Kirk (Amy), Korrine (Darryl), Paul, and Scott, as well as the great-grandfather of Emma and Ava; and Owen, Emma, Kyler, and Kohen. He was the dear brother of Ella Morton, and was predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy McMenomy, Fanny Foster, Irene Hinley, and Fred Coons.
Hugh was born and raised at Cass Bridge. He married Freida Fawcett, and settled on their farm where they raised three children. Hugh was a hardworking, dedicated farmer that understood the importance of balancing work and his family. He loved to create tools and inventions at home, and spent some of his time visiting local farms working for the Ministry of Agriculture assessing capital grants. He enjoyed curling, shuffle board, playing cards, travelling, spending time with friends, and never passed up an opportunity to play a practical joke or two. He will forever be remembered as strong, quiet, proud, caring, and funny with a love for life and all it had to offer.
Visitation was held at Daniels Funeral Chapels in Winchester on Tues.,Oct. 1  from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home today (Wed., Oct. 2) at 11 am with Rev. Christine Lowson officiating followed by internment at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville.
