Mac Davidson

Mac Davidson, a lifetime resident of Winchester Springs, passed away at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Mon., May 23, 2011. He was 77.
Mac was born on Feb., 26, 1934 at Winchester Springs, the son of Muriel (nee McIntosh) and Joseph Lawrence Davidson. He attended public school in Winchester Springs, and high school in Winchester. He was a member and elder of Knox Presbyterian Church in Winchester Springs, but after the church burnt, he crossed the road and went to the United Church.
Mac farmed all his life, but also worked for a while at Allison’s Feed and Farm Depot, and the Cold Storage, and when they closed the school in the ‘Springs,’ he drove a school bus for three years.
Mac got married in Ottawa on Oct. 18, 1958, to Bertha Stephens, and together they had three children; Wanda, Judy, and Joseph. Mac’s life was his family and farming. He enjoyed driving around the farm with his brother, and touring the back roads reminiscing about old times. He loved motorcycles, and he had an Indian motorcycle which he really enjoyed driving. He liked red cars, older model vehicles, and he enjoyed taking the kids and grandchildren for milkshakes. Mac appreciated the friendship of his neighbours.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha: his children, Wanda (Tim Monk), Judy, Joseph (Vickie): his grandchildren, Tim DeJong (Jennifer); Yvonne and Daniel Monk; Cassandra Davidson; and Ashleigh Hyland; his great-grandchild, Caroline DeJong; and his brother, Allen (Irene) Davidson. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Muriel Davidson. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Wed., May 25. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Thurs., May 26 at 11 am with Rev. Christine Lowson officiating. Doreen Acres played and sang “Amazing Grace: for the service, and Vickie Davidson and Rebecca Veale gave the eulogies. Interment at Dundela Cemetery followed the service. The pallbearers were Tim DeJong, Yvonne and Daniel Monk, Cassandra Davidson, Ashleigh Hyland, and Tim Monk.
