Dr. Dalton Docksteader
March 18, 1916 – January 25, 2011

Dr. Dalton Docksteader passed away peacefully with family at his side on Tues., Jan. 25, 2011 at the Burloak Long Term Care Centre in Burlington, Ont. He was in his 95th year.
He was born in Merrickville on March 18, 1916, and grew up on his father’s farm in the Winchester area. He attended the Ontario Veterinary College at Guelph where he graduated in 1940 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced veterinary medicine in Chesterville for 45 years and really enjoyed his profession.
Dalton enjoyed raising his two children with his beloved wife, Sybil Dillabough, to whom he was married for 35 years. In 1986, he married Lois McNair, and they lived together in Chesterville, and later in Ottawa, for approximately 20 years. He particularly enjoyed his family outings with the Docksteaders and the Allisons, as well as his boating and fishing adventures.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Brian Docksteader (Pamela) of Calgary and Janice Docksteader Richards (David) of Oakville, as well as three grandchildren, Ryan Docksteader (Kristina), Dr. Mark Docksteader, and Ashley Docksteader of Calgary. He was predeceased by his wife, Sybil Dillabough, as well as his parents, Thomas Alexander Docksteader and Mabel Lough, and his brother, Hubert Ellwood Docksteader.
His family is very appreciative and grateful for the care and support of the Burloak Long Term Care Centre in Burlington.
The family received friends and relatives at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Chesterville on Sat., Jan. 29 from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 1 pm, with Rev. Angus MacDonald and Pastor Bruce North officiating. Interment took place at MapleRidge Cemetery in Chesterville. The pallbearers were Ryan Docksteader, Mark Docksteader, Ashley Docksteader, Arden Black, Mervin Patterson, and Jason Yeo.
