GREELY – Several hundred snowmobilers flocked to the second annual Osgoode Carleton Snowmobile Trail Club (OCSTC) Drag Races Sat. Feb. 10.

Sixty snowmobilers registered to race during the day that featured 12 different classes of sleds.

OCSTC president Ryan Downing dubbed it all a success.

Racer Gavin O’Rourke flew down the track on his way to win the Clarmo Auto Cup.

“It was a really good day for us,” he said. “We don’t have a way to track how many spectators we had, but I estimated it was somewhere between 800 to 1,200 snowmobiles that showed up.”

Another bonus to the event was that Fries for Charity raised $1,000 for the Township of Osgoode Care Centre.

The event took place last year for the first time and Downing said there was some parity in the results of the races.

“There were different winners from last year so the competition is pretty wide open each year,” he said.

There is a lot that goes into organizing an event like this one, said Downing. The commitment to doing so keeps him out of the competition.

“I’d like to someday race, but I am really busy with the event,” he said. “There is a lot to do, like finding sponsors to help out and securing land for the race.”

Sponsors were given the distinction of having the trophy for each class be represented by their businesses’ name.

Don Deugo (middle) received one of his two trophies he won on the day. OCSTC president Ken Smart (left) and OCSTC club director Ryan Downing presented Deugo with his trophy.

The title sponsor for the event was No Limits Auto Parts while other supporters included the Red Dot Café, Allan Johnston Sales & Repair, Don Deugo Small Engine Repair and Osgoode Ward Councillor George Darouze.

Special thanks goes out to The Livingston Farm and Tomlinson Construction.
