Audery Ducolon, a lifetime resident of the Chesterville area, passed away at Hospice Cornwall on Thurs., Oct. 22, 2015. She was 82.
Audery was born in Winchester Township on Feb. 28, 1933 to her parents Milton and Ada Durant (nee Barclay), and grew up as a youth in Winchester. She met Tom Ducolon at an Inkerman Rockets hockey game where they fell in love, and were eventually married. Living in Winchester, they had two sons – Barry and Wayne, and sadly lost two daughters at very young ages – Cheryl Louise and Wanda Lee. They moved away because farming was not in their blood and went to Montreal to pursue other work. There, their son, Grant, and twin sons, Terry and Gerry, were born.
Throughout their lives, Tom, Audery and family moved around to several destinations in Quebec and Ontario, working, successfully and unsuccessfully, at the many business ventures they dreamed up. They eventually settled in Smiths Falls where together they ran Smiths Falls Craft Barn and Flea Market. After seven years, they decided to sell the business and semi-retire. Sadly just two months later Tom succumbed to cancer and passed away. Audery relocated to Chesterville for a number of years then on to a seniors apartment in Winchester where she lived for seven years. About two years ago, she happily moved into an apartment in the rear of Grant and Karen’s home in Newington, where she lived up until Oct. 22 of this year.
Two of Audery’s many loves and hobbies were to knit hats for the new babies at Winchester District Memorial Hospital, and to help plan the annual Ducolon family Christmas. She also loved to keep journals of her many vacations around North America, including trips to her sons and their families homes, trips to Uncle Al’s cottage, cruises, and weekend jaunts in her van with all her sons and their families. Audery liked to speak of her many friends at the building in Winchester, and lovely meals out with them along with the times she had with her niece, Gail. At the last family reunion in Alexandria Bay, N.Y., Audery connected with family in the U.S. and Canada. She will be sadly missed by all those she touched.
She is survived by her children, Barry (Joanne) of Halifax, Wayne of Kansas, Grant (Karen) of Newington, Gerry (Sheri) of Czar, Alta., and Terry (Carolyn) of Chesterville. She will be fondly remembered by 15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Tom; her parents; her daughters, Cheryl Louise and Wanda Lee; her sisters, Dorothy Durant, Hilda Billings, Margaret Casselman, Muriel Cornell, and Lilian McCooeye; and her brothers, Dwight, Lyle, Warren, Mason, and Milfred Durant. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends called at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Chesterville on Wed., Oct. 28 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Thurs., Oct. 29 at 11 am with Rev. Debbie Poirier officiating. Interment of cremated remains at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville followed the service. The pallbearers were Tim Ducolon, Lee Casselman, Mike Ducolon, and Robin Ducolon.
Donations to Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
