Shirley Greer, a lifetime resident of Chesterville, passed away at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Wed., Nov. 2, 2011, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Shirley was born in Chesterville on Aug. 27, 1940, to her parents, James and Greta Bailey (nee Heagle). In the early years, she worked at Fulton’s IGA in Chesterville. She married Harry Greer on Aug. 26, 1961. Following their marriage, she became a homemaker raising their two sons. She was also a partner in the family owned transport company with her husband Harry. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.
Shirley enjoyed gardening and being outside. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be fondly remembered by all those who knew her.
Shirley is survived by her husband Harry, her sons, Kevin (Amanda) and Darren (Sonia), both of Chesterville, and her grandchildren Kyle, Jarrett, and Dakken.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Chesterville on Sat., Nov. 5 from 1 pm until the time of service. A memorial service was held at the funeral home at 2 pm with Rev. Wendy Wright-MacKenzie officiating. Inurnment of cremated remains will be at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville at a later date.
