Cecil Leslie Holliday passed away on Sat., Nov.14, 2015 at Dundas Manor Nursing Home in Winchester with his family by his side. He was 89.
He was born in Spencerville on Jan. 7, 1926 to his parents, Christopher and Elizabeth (nee Milliken) Holliday. He married Hilda Armstrong on May 19, 1945. Soon thereafter they welcomed their only son, Raymond, in March 1946, and then their first daughter, Joyce, in November 1949. Cecil bought his first farm from Art Edgerton, and moved his family to RR#3 Chesterville in March 1953, where they welcomed two more daughters, Ruth in September 1954 and Bonnie in June 1963.
Cecil farmed all his life, and added more land through the years. He retired from farming in 1987, but found retirement was not for him, and built a small barn to raise heifers and cut wood to keep busy. His health began to decline and he was forced to give up splitting wood in 2012. He moved into Dundas Manor in November 2013 to be with his wife, Hilda.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Hilda Holliday; his daughter-in-law, Phyllis Holliday (the late Raymond) of Winchester; his daughters, Joyce Byford (the late Joseph) of Winchester, Ruth Doesburg (John) of Mariatown, and Bonnie Holliday (Ronald Blanchard) of Winchester; and his sister, Ethel Henophy (Morris) of Winchester. Cecil was a much loved Pop and will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Tracey Van Bruinessen (Dave), Steven Doesburg, Melanie McCourt (Drew), Lindsey Proulx (Al), Allyson Brehl (Jesse), Andrea LeClair (Craig); and great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Brandon VanBruinessen; Logan, Gabriel, Micah, Lily-Anna and Gracelyn McCourt; Aiden and Emilie LeClair; and Jack Brehl.
Cecil was predeceased by his brothers, John and Gordon Holliday, and his grandson, John Doesburg Jr. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
