The battle for the 2016-2017 National Capital Junior Hockey League championship has pitted neighbouring franchises against each other. The first-place and nine-time champion Embrun Panthers and Chesterville’s number-three ranked North Dundas Rockets have squared off in a hard-hitting, fast-paced series that is filling the arenas in both communities. Saturday’s (March 18) 4-1 win by the Rockets in Chesterville tied the set at 1-1 and prompted one fan to say, “Junior C hockey is the hidden gem of the Ottawa area.” Rockets’ forward Chris Marchand (No. 8) battled Embrun D-man Martin Carriere in front of Panthers’ goaltender Danik Gervais during game two.
