WILLIAMSTOWN — A 2-1 win against the La Citadelle Patriotes and a 1-1 draw with the Tagwi Warriors leveled the North Dundas District High School Junior Devils SD&G boys soccer league record at 1-1-1.
The Devils earned those four points (three for the win and one for the tie) playing at Char-Lan District High School last Wednesday (May 10).
The same day, the Senior Devils blanked La Citadelle 1-nil and dropped a similar 1-nil decision to Tagwi. Those results moved their record to 1-2-1.
Both squads finished their regular season schedules playing in Alexandria on Monday (May 15).
Peter Xidias gave the juniors a 1-0 lead against the Patriotes heading the ball into the net to bury a Cameron Cotnam corner kick. La Citadelle knotted the score 1-1 and set the stage for Curtis Bell to crack the winning marker. Bell rushed up field, stopped, allowed the defender to run past him and toed the ball inside the goal post.
Trailing Tagwi 1-0 Xidias cashed his second goal of the day when he tapped the ball into the Warriors net giving North Dundas a 1-1 result.
Senior keeper Cyrill Jaquemet registered his first shutout backing the Devils in a 1-nil win against La Citadelle.
“Aaron Turcotte netted the goal early when he caught the keeper at the top of the box and chipped the ball up and over him and into the open net,” explained coach Kevin Bell.
“Unfortunately, they [seniors] did not play as well in their second game and lost 1-nil to Tagwi,” added the coach.
