A lifetime resident of the Chesterville area, Neil Kelly passed away suddenly at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Sun., Feb. 1, 2015. He was 87.
Neil was born in Chesterville on Nov. 24, 1927 to his parents John and Sarah Kelly. On June 14, 1952, he married Margaret O’Rourke at Blessed Sacrament Church in Ottawa, and together they had six children Mike, Larry, Danny, Maureen, Pat and Greg.
In addition to working full-time at Dupont Canada in Maitland, Neil operated a dairy farm along with his wife Margaret who was a hard-working lady. Neil and Margaret travelled extensively during their life to such places as New York City, Hawaii, Florida, and throughout Canada.
Neil was a man who worked hard and liked to have a good time. He and Margaret’s home was always a beehive of activity, and everyone was always welcome there.
Neil is survived by his children Mike (Marlene) of Chesterville, Larry (Heidi) of Finch, Danny (Jennifer) of Chesterville, Maureen MacDonald (Tom) of Airdrie, Alta., Pat (Margaret) of Chesterville and Greg of Chesterville, and his sister Margaret Walsh of Marysville. Neil will be sadly missed by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret and his brothers, Edmund and Raymond Kelly. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Chesterville, on Thurs., Feb. 5, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service was held at the funeral home on Fri., Feb. 6 at 1 pm, with Father Cosmas Ajawara officiating. Spring interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Chesterville.
The pallbearers were Chris Kelly, Aaron Kelly, Devon Kelly, Darrin Guy, Jason MacDonald, Michael Holland, and Chris McDonough.
