Helen Grendaline Kerr
Helen Kerr, formerly of Kerrs Ridge, Mountain, passed away Sept. 8, 2011, at Bayfield Manor, Kemptville.
She was the last of eight children born to the late James Henry Barkley (1892-1953) and Florida Marie (Florence) Taillefer (1884-1982). She was predeceased by her husband, James Alexander Kerr (1916-2000) whom she married on Feb. 6, 1943, and her son, Robert James (Bob) Kerr (1945-2006). Helen is survived by her daughter, Pat McLaughlin (Don) of Winchester, and her boys, Ian of Ottawa and Michael (Marie-Josee) of Orleans, Michael’s daughter, Anne-Elizabeth, and by Bob’s girls, Susan Kerley (Scott) of Jackson, Wyoming and their children, Calvin and Cassandra; Sandra Palmer (Terry) of RR3, Mountain and their girls Katherine and Teresa; and Synthia Kerr of Nepean, and her boys, Raymond and Graeham Logie. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Stewart (Gerry) of Cornwall. Mrs. Kerr was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Earl Melvin Barkley (1913-1992) and his first wife the late Ruby Robinson, Anna Belle Lang (1915-1991) and her husband the late Chester, Hilda Florence Hyndman (1918-1999) and her husband the late Lloyd, Murray James Barkley (1920-1977), Beatrice Frances Buchner (1925-2007) and her husband Leonard, Albert Rene Barkley (1928-1982), and Madeline Alice Prieur (1930-1991). She is survived by sisters-in-law, Betty (Murray) and Myrtle (Albert), and brother-in-law Clifford Prieur. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen helped Jim on the farm where his great-grandfather settled in the 1830s. Helen enjoyed gardening and crafts but was known among friends and relatives for her sauerkraut.
Cremation will take place and at Helen’s request there will be no visitation. Friends and relatives are invited for the burial at South Gower Cemetery Fri., Sept. 16, at 2:00 pm.
Donations to the Arthritis Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Winchester District Memorial Hospital will be appreciated by the family.
