A resident of the St. Jacques Nursing Home in Embrun for the past year, Clifford Liscumb passed away there on Wed., July 13, 2011. He was 89.
Clifford was born in Chesterville on March 2, 1922 to his parents, Russell and Fannie Liscumb (nee Bilow). On March 22, 1949 in Napanee, Ont., he married Lola Meldrum, and together they had three children: Marion, Glen, and Gerald.
Clifford farmed in the Winchester area all his life. At the age of 65, he moved to Chesterville, and began mowing lawns for exercise and to keep himself busy. Clifford never had a drivers license, so he walked everywhere he had to go. He always said that “these legs are made for walking and that is what I am going to do.”
Clifford is survived by his children, Marion Comstock (Rick Quart) of Cardinal, Glen “Yogi” (Ruth) of RR# 3 Chesterville, and Gerald “Willie” (Sue) of Chesterville; his grandchildren, Kim (Mark) Findlay, Kirk (Tina) Liscumb, David Liscumb, Sherri Stewart, Troy Stewart; great-grandchildren, Travis, Connor, Megan, Justin, Madison, Craig, Amanda, Marissa, Kobe, and Darci; and one great-great-granddaughter Sophia. He was predeceased by his wife Lola on July 26, 1999, his sisters, Pearl Liscumb, Mary Lanoue, Annie Edwards, Ruby Edwards, and brothers, Albert, Cecil, Arthur, Ralph, Joseph, Basil, Ebert, and Colin. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside funeral service was held at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville on Fri., July 15 at 1 pm with Rev. Bruce North officiating. The pallbearers were Kim Findlay, Kirk Liscumb, David Liscumb, Sherri Stewart, Troy Stewart, and Craig Liscumb. The honourary pallbearers were Amanda Esquivel; Travis, Connor, and Megan Findlay; and Justin and Madison Sergerie.
Donations to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
The arrangements were entrusted to the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Chesterville.
