William MacGregor “Mac” Moffat
William MacGregor “Mac” Moffat died after a lengthy battle with cancer at Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) on June 29, 2003. He was 82.
He was the dear husband of the late Dolores (nee Johnston). He was predeceased by parents Tom Moffat and Effie (nee MacGregor). He was the beloved father of William of Charlottetown, P.E.I.; James (Dianna) of Ingleside; and Robert (Janie) of Ottawa. He will be sadly missed by grandchildren Michael, Carly Jane, Gregor (Mary) and their son Alexander, and Maeghan (Nathaniel Miller).
He lived in the Morewood area for much of his first 25 years. When he married Dolores on Sept. 14, 1946, they moved to a farm north of town. Later, he and his family moved north of Chesterville, where he purchased his wife’s parents’ property and continued his farming career until 1966.
He then worked as a Dairy Herd Improvement Association inspector throughout the county until his retirement in 1986. In 1983, he and his family moved “up to the corner.” He lived there independently after Dolores’s death in 1984. For over 17 years, he enjoyed much of his retirement by travelling, golfing, bowling and walking – all despite a nine-year bout with cancer. A series of strokes in conjunction with cancer necessitated his hospitalization at WDMH for the last days of his life.
He will be greatly missed by family, relatives, friends and neighbors. Family received friends at the Chesterville Funeral Home on July 3. The funeral service was held in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment of cremated remains followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery.
Donations to the long-term continuing care unit at WDMH would be appreciated by the family.
