Lucille Munroe

A lifetime resident of the Chesterville area, Lucille Munroe (nee Froats) passed away at the Dundas Manor Nursing Home in Winchester on Fri., May 28, 2010 with her family by her side. She was 92.
Lucille was born in Williamsburg on May 10, 1918 to her parents, Malcolm and Alice Froats (nee Casselman), and she was raised on the family farm along with her sister, Audrey and her brothers, Harold and Kenneth.
As a young woman, Lucille worked a few jobs, including as a receptionist for Dr. Locke in Williamsburg. Lucille married Dwayne Munroe on July 8, 1937, and together they had two children, Grace Elayne and Donald Wayne.
After marriage, she became a housewife and managed a small family farm with her husband. The job she enjoyed most was being a mother. She always enjoyed getting involved with anything Grace or Donald was involved in, whether it was 4H, tap dancing, hockey, or ball. She was always there to lend her support. She loved crafts, cooking, and gardening. Lucille was extremely talented in doing crafts such as quilting, knitting, and tatting. After her children were grown, she became involved with the Chesterville Fair Board where she served for 25 years as secretary, in which she took great pride. Lucille also enjoyed being a member of the Chesterville Rebekah Lodge #387 from 1963 to 2007, when the Lodge closed. Lucille’s greatest joy was when she became a grandmother to Jason, Karrielynn, and her step-grandson Jamie. Whether Lucille was viewed as a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt or friend – she was an amazing woman that will always be thought of lovingly and with affection. Lucille will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and neighbours.
She is survived by her son Donald (Michelle) of RR#2 Chesterville, and her grandchildren Jamie Magee, Karrielynn Servage, and Jason Servage (Kelly). She was predeceased by her husband Dwayne, her daughter Grace Servage, her sister Audrey Casselman, and her brothers, Harold and Kenneth Froats. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Chesterville on Mon., May 31. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Tues., June 1, with Rev. Janet Evans officiating, followed by interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville. The pallbearers were Jamie Magee, Jason Servage, Glendon Shay, Mark Shay, Gary Froats, and Rolly Siemonsen. The honourary pallbearer was Donald Shay.
