Myrtle Murray. a resident of Winchester for the past 10 years, passed away peacefully at Winchester District Memorial Hospital, with her loving husband by her side and a smile on her face, on Mon., Dec. 18, 2017, in her 90th year.
She was born in Cobden on Aug, 12, 1928 to her parents, John and Charlotte Morphy. She attended school in Cobden and was a graduate of Grade 13. Myrtle then worked for Bell Canada and the post office in Cobden.
Myrtle married William Murray on May 23, 1953, and together they had four children — Heather, Joan, Donna and Bill. She was an incredibly loving mother and dear friend to many. Throughout her life she was a very active member of the Anglican Church.
During Bill’s 26-year military career the family lived in many places across Canada before settling in Chesterville upon Bill’s retirement. Myrtle enjoyed volunteering at Ye Olde Bargain Shoppe, and she was very supportive of Bill and the Korean Veteran’s Association. She loved to dance and partake in exciting adventures such as the time she attended the Airborne Regiments celebration where she jumped from the mock tower. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, and she made many beautiful things for her children.
Myrtle is survived by her husband of more than 64 years, Bill; her daughters, Heather Bailey (Stan) of Maple Ridge, B.C., Joan Bajak (Robert) of Hamilton, and Donna Windley (John) of Wasaga Beach; her sister, Lois Scott of Pembroke; her grandchildren, Walter, Melanie, Wayne (Melanie), Lisa, James, Christopher, Andrea (Joey), Jessica (Nigel), and Jolene; and her great-grandchildren, Easton, Quinn, Ben, Logan, Jonathan, Jayme Leigh, and Xavier. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Charlotte Morphy, her son, Bill, her sisters, Muriel Maxwell, Phyllis Adrain, Hazel Creswick, Dorothy Dupley, and her brother, Ivan Morphy. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Chesterville on Thurs., Dec. 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service was held at St. Clare’s Anglican Church in Winchester on Fri., Dec. 22 at 11 am with Rev. John Wilcox officiating. Interment of cremated remains will be at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa. The pallbearers were her grandchildren, Wayne, Lisa, James, Chris, Andrea, and Joey.
