MAPLE RIDGE – Both of North Dundas District High School’s boys’ volleyball teams have qualified for the SD&G “A” playoffs.
Those one-day tournaments were held yesterday (Tues., Nov. 7) with the Senior Devils playing at Tagwi High School and the juniors in Williamstown at Char-Lan District High School.
Cheryl Williams’ seniors compiled an 11-14 record, finished fifth and were slated to take on the number four ranked La Citadelle Patriotes in their first match. The L’Heritage Dragons (No. 3) were to meet the Char-Lan Crusaders (No. 6) in the other quarter-final game. The lowest seed would then meet up with the top-ranked Tagwi Warriors. The second lowest seed squad would move on to meet the number-two ranked Glengarry Gaels in the other semi-final match. Those winners would face each other in the championship game.
The Devils completed the regular season losing 2-0 (21-25, 25-27) to the St. Lawrence Saints and dropping a 2-1 (15-25, 25-21, 9-15) decision to the St. Joe’s “AA” Panthers.
Kathi Poirier’s junior squad collected 25 points (17-6) and earned number-two seed status and drew a bye into the semi-final round of their competition at Tagwi.
St. Lawrence (No. 3) met L’Heritage (No. 6) in one quarter-final match with Glengarry (No. 4) squaring off against the Seaway Spartans (No. 5) in the other series.
The second lowest seed advanced to face North Dundas in semi-final action. The top-ranked Char-Lan Crusaders were to tangle with the lowest seed in their elimination match. The semi-final winners would meet in the championship game.
St. Joe’s, the Holy Trinity Falcons and the CCVS Raiders will fight it out for the SD&G “AA” crown tomorrow (Thurs., Nov. 9) at Holy Trinity.
