CORNWALL – Five matches into the 2017 SD&G “A” boys volleyball schedule the North Dundas District High School Junior Devils remain undefeated.
Last week (Tues., Oct. 3) the junior squad stretched its winning string to 5-0 sweeping the host Holy Trinity Falcons (3-0) and the L’Heritage Dragons (3-0). The Devils opened the new season knocking off La Citadelle, Glengarry and Tagwi in straight sets (2-0).
“Our starting line continues to grow and dominate the junior season,” noted coach Kathi Poirier. “Our MVPs were Ewan Wilson, with his powerful and consistent serve and Owen Richardson, who worked the court keeping the ball off the floor.”
The same day North Dundas’ Senior Devils were in action and compiled a 3-4 mark, which moved their record to 6-9.
The Devils lost 2-0 (17-25, 19-25) to Holy Trinity, swept CCVS 2-0 (25-17, 25-14) and went three sets before losing 2-1 (26-24, 19-25, 7-15) to L’Heritage.
“We were missing Jarrett [Williams] and Ben [Fingler], our second setter for our match against L’Heritage – so with them in the line up it could have turned out differently,” said coach Cheryl Williams.
Cam Cotnam was also out of action prompting the coach to recruit junior Curtis Bell.
“Everyone was a little off and our serves were atrocious,” added the coach.
Both squads are in practice mode until league action resumes on Thurs., Oct. 26 at Char-Lan District High School.
