Night one in Morewood July 5

WINCHESTER – It’s the Township of North Dundas’ sesquicentennial project.

With Canada marking its 150th birthday this year, the municipality set aside $3,000 of last year’s budget surplus to assist in bringing the community together.

What was born from that is the “Meet Me on Main Street” initiative.

The idea is that North Dundas’ five hamlets will each close down one of its main throughways for a nighttime (5:30 to 8 pm) concert series this summer.

It will launch Wed., July 5 in Morewood with Moffat Street closed from Thomas Drive to Main Street. Hillbilly Highway will provide the music, and Otter Tails and beef on a bun, prepared by The Winchelsea, will be served.

Next is South Mountain on Thurs., July 13, with Main Street closed from Scott to Church and Bridge Streets. The evening’s entertainment and food offering is the same.

On Wed., July 19, a portion of Kerrs Ridge Road will be closed in Hallville. Sons of Gord will perform, and Loughlin’s Country Store will be serving Nanaimo bars, butter tarts, beef on a bun, Canadian maple baked beans, salads and refreshments.

Chesterville’s scheduled date is Wed., July 26 with the village’s Rotary Club sponsoring. Main Street will be closed between Queen and King Streets, and Marleen Fawcett will perform. The Winchelsea is to serve Otter Tails and beef on a bun, while the Snack Shack will be dishing out poutine.

Finally, Winchester’s date is Wed., Aug. 2, and St. Lawrence will be shutdown between Main and Caleb Streets. Furious Gord is the night’s entertainment, while The Winchelsea will offer the same food, and Mr. Mozzarella will be selling poutine.

At each stop, North Dundas will be operating a beer tent and Topline Trailer and Equipment Sales will be providing a trailer to be used as the entertainment stage.
