John D. (Jack) Nelson
John (Jack) D. Nelson, formerly a resident of the Seniors Residence at the Colonel Belcher in Calgary, AB, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Sat., March 31, 2012.
Jack was born on March 28, 1928 in Matheson, Ont. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1950 until 1953, and during that time served in the Korean War. Since then, Jack has been an active member of the Legion. He moved to Alberta in 1976, and worked at Shell Canada (Jumping Pound Plant) as a Power Engineer until his retirement in 1990.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, George and Mabel Nelson, his brothers, Bill, Gerry, and Allan, and a nephew George Nelson. Jack is survived by his wife, Shirley, his sister Peggy Ann (Shep), daughters, Charlene (Scott) Williams, Marilyn (John) Van Middelkoop, and Nancy Harper (Les Flemmer), and sons, Larry (Cheryl) Harper and Tim (Stacy) Harper, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Cremona Royal Canadian Legion, Cremona, AB on Sat., April 14 at 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack may be made to local Legions.
