Peter Scheepers, a resident of the Winchester area for the past 49 years, passed away peacefully at home on Wed., Dec. 19, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 69.
Peter was born in Son, The Netherlands, on Dec. 16, 1943, to his parents, Hubert and Johanna Scheepers (nee Habraken). On July 10, 1965, he married Alida Bouwhuis in Vars. In 1968, he took over his parents’ dairy farm in Winchester, and continued farming until this past fall.
Peter was an outgoing person who possessed a good sense of humour, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed family gatherings, travelling, golf, playing cards with friends, and gardening.
Peter is survived by his wife of 47 years, Alida, his sons, Richard (Donna), Michael (Kelly), Kevin (Dianne), all of Winchester, and Duane (Erin) of Vancouver, and his siblings, the late Frank (Pauline), Hank (Betty), Bert (Karen), and Ann Dignard (the late Ray). He will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Ryan, Steven, Alison, Taylor, Bradley, Kennedy, Brandon, Meagan, Emily, Grace, Olivia, and Henry. He was predeceased by his nephew, David Dignard. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Chesterville on Fri., Dec. 21 from 1:30 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church in Chesterville on Sat., Dec. 22 at 11 am with Father Cosmas Ajawara officiating. Interment followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville. The pallbearers were his grandchildren.
