MOREWOOD – A 27-year-old South Dundas man was killed Tues., Aug. 22 after his all-terrain vehicle collided with a cube van.
According to Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SD&G) OPP, Christopher Merkley was heading north on Steen Road near Morewood when he entered onto Thompson Road and was met with an eastbound cube van.
Merkley was killed instantly. The driver of the van was uninjured.
The roads were closed for several hours as officers tried to determine why the crash happened, and whether or not Merkley saw the van.
Both SD&G OPP officers and OPP Traffic Collision team members continue to investigate.
Merkley is survived by his wife, Jocelyn, and children Averie and Andrea, as well as his mother Evie and sister Crystal.
A graveside service took place Sat., Aug. 26 at New Union Cemetery in Williamsburg, followed by a celebration of life at the village’s Oddfellows Hall.
At this time, donations are being gathered for a trust fund arranged for Merkley’s young children.
