Mary Van Gurp

Mary Van Gurp, a resident of Chesterville for the past 53 years, passed away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Sun., Nov. 30, 2014. She was 90.
Mary was born in Medemblik, The Netherlands on Aug. 6, 1924 to her parents, Petrus and Geertruida Manshanden (nee Oud). She immigrated to Canada with her husband in March 1955.  She enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing, traveling, playing cards, and especially spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her husband, Bill, her children, Tony (Betty) of Chesterville, Gerty Tenbult of Oxford Mills, Peter (Bernadetta) of Chesterville, and Gerry (Debbie) of Oxford Mills. She was the cherished Oma of Angie (Kevin), Jenny (Lee), Stacey (Marty), Mark (Amanda), Amy, Scott (Jen), Matthew (Rebekah), Michael (Rebecca), Amie (Brad), and Taylor; and Great-Oma of Ty, Thomas, Hallie, Charlotte, and Herman. She was predeceased by her sisters, G. Bakker, D. Groenen, C. Groot, C. Commandeur, G. Kraayvanger, and her brother, A. Manshanden, all of The Netherlands. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Chesterville on Thurs., Dec. 4 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Presentation Roman Catholic Church in Chesterville on Fri., Dec.  5 at 11 am with Fr. Cosmas Ajawara officiating. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Chesterville will follow. The pallbearers will be Matthew Van Gurp, Michael Van Gurp, Mark Tenbult, Scott Tenbult, Taylor Van Gurp, and Kevin Helmer.
