Charles Henry (Chuck) Way passed away peacefully, with his children at his side, in Belleville on Fri., Aug. 23, 2013.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Hasna, (Jan. 18, 2013). A dedicated, protective, and caring father, he will be dearly missed by his children, Charlotte and Michael, and daughter-in-law, Alanna (nee Philbin). He was a proud and enthusiastic grandpa, and will be greatly missed by grandchildren, Marc and Madeleine Pelletier, and Matthew and Nathan Way. All who knew him will remember his sense of humour, gentleness, and ability to tell a good story with humour and panache.
Born June 15th, 1931 in Prince Edward County, Charles was predeceased by his parents, Robert (Bob) and Myrtle Way, as well as siblings, Flora, Donald, and Robert (Bud). As a young man, he decided to exchange life on the farm for the life of a soldier, and began a 31-year military career with the Canadian Armed Forces, beginning with service in Korea during the war. Throughout the years, he participated in many tours of duty overseas with the Canadian Forces contingent of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces. During one tour in Lebanon, he met, and fell in love with, Hasna, a teacher and law student, and they were married in the ancient Phoenician city of Byblos in 1959. They travelled extensively, shared many adventures, and raised a family together. After his retirement, Charles’ sense of duty and compassion for others led him to spend many years volunteering within his community.
As per Charles’ wishes, a private memorial service was held on Thurs., Aug. 29 with family friend Rev. Lloyd Shorten presiding. His ashes were interred alongside those of his beloved wife in Cataraqui Cemetery in Kingston.
The funeral arrangements were entrusted to James Reid Funeral Home in Kingston.
