WINCHESTER – Twelve teams from eight different clubs across the Ottawa Valley participated in the Stanley Gauthier Bonspiel Sat., Jan. 13 and Sun., Jan. 14 at the Winchester Curling Club.

The event is one meant for women curlers with five years or less of experience.

Winchester’s team cruised through the bonspiel after losing their first game, eventually capturing the Gauthier Cup.

In the team’s first game, they fell to Cityview Curling Club 6-5. Janet Douma (skip), Tina Gasser (vice), Joanne Giles (second) and Melissa McMillan (lead) dropped to the Gauthier side of the tournament and cruised from there.

Winchester defeated the other representative from Cityview 9-2 to secure a spot in the semi-finals. After a 6-4 victory in the semis, the team faced the RA Curling Club. With a strong finish, the Winchester CC team won 9-6 to capture the Gauthier Cup.

All four team members are graduates of the Adult Learn to Curl program.
