Irene Bailey died at the Hartford Home, Morrisburg, on Dec. 5, 2002. She was 86.
She was born on July 1, 1916 in Matilda Township, daughter of the late Ernest Marcellus and Blanche (nee Stacey). She was a lifetime resident of the area, and was a homemaker. She had lived at Hartford Home for the previous four years.
Mrs. Bailey married the late Jay Bailey on Sept. 16, 1939 at the Rowena United Church Manse.
Surviving are children Marilyn Smith, John (Debbie) and Charles (Laurie), all of Brinston. She was predeceased by great-grandson Lucas McCrea, sister Jean Smail and brother-in-law Dudley Smail.
She will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Jeff Smith, Jo-Anne McCrea, Jason Bailey, Jeremie Bailey, and great-grandchildren Kelly Smith, Carrie McCrea and Maggie McCrea. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed knitting, quilting, playing the piano and visiting with her family and friends. She enjoyed baking and making doughnuts. She was a member of the Brinston United Church Women.
Friends called at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Dec. 7. The funeral was on Dec. 8 with Rev. Yvonne Willis officiating. Interment was at Sprucehaven Cemetery in Brinston.
Pallbearers were Jeff Smith, Jo-Anne McCrea, Jason Bailey, Jeremie Bailey, Neil Strader and Larry Gilmer. Honorary pallbearers were Lorne Strader, Henry Geurkink and Henry Zandbergen.
Donations to the Brinston United Church or Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
