Florence Isabelle Cairncross

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Florence Isabelle Cairncross (nee Timmins) of the Maxville Manor. She passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at Cornwall Community Hospital on Thurs., Jan. 15, 2015.
Florence was born on a farm in Inkerman to the late George Pearson Timmins and Ellen Viola Merkley. She was the loving wife of J.D. (Buck) Cairncross for 59 years. She was the dear mother of Judy Butts (the late Bob) of Victoria, B.C., Tina of Glen Roy, Ont., and Scott (Mary) of Milton, Ont. She was the cherished grandmother of Christopher Cairncross (Shona), also of Milton. She will be missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Florence trained as a psychiatric nurse at the Kingston Ontario Hospital, with her career in nursing taking her to Toronto, Bermuda, and Ottawa.  Well beyond her professional years, she “nursed” and cared for family, neighbours, and friends in need. She was an avid gardener, and could make anything grow, and delighted in working outside spring, summer, and fall. She wore many volunteer “hats,” whether as a camp nurse for Boy Scouts, a church fundraiser with plant sales, or as an adult literacy tutor in SD&G, to name just a few.
Relatives and friends called at the Munro and Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 114 Main St. South in Alexandria (613-525-2772) on Sun., Jan. 18 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, and on Mon., Jan. 19 from 10 am until the time of the funeral service in the chapel at 11 am. Spring Interment will be at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.
Mom liked her flowers, but donations to the Maxville Manor Foundation would also be appreciated by the family.
As a memorial to Florence, a tree will be planted in Memory Woods. A tree grows – memories live.
