Aurelien Robert ‘Aurie’ Cayer

Aurelien Robert ‘Aurie’ Cayer passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Tues., Feb. 28, 2017, in his 93rd year.
Aurie was born in Ormond to his parents, the late Roger and Coranna (Gregoire). His parents purchased a farm on the Boyne Road near Winchester. He spent his early years helping his parents and siblings on their farm. In his early 20’s, Aurie spent time helping with grain harvests in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Coming back home to the farm, he met his wife, Dianne (nee Cartier). They were married in 1949, and purchased their own farm down the road on the Boyne. He spent many years self-employed as a dairy farmer winning the distinction of “Farmer of the Year” in 1969. Aurie was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, Marionville Branch. He and Dianne spent many Monday evenings bowling in Chesterville at the “Monast Bowling Lanes.” After retirement, they spent winters in Florida and summers in their motor home at various campgrounds making many new friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne, of 67 years; his children, Jackie Robinson (Jim) of Finch, Roger of Calgary, Denise Gravelle (Larry) of Kemptville, and Carole Mitchell (Ralph) of Osgoode; and his sister,Mary of Ottawa. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Claire Guilbault in 1974, and by his sister, Theresa, and brothers Florian and Fern.
The family would like to thank the C.C.A.C., Beth Donovan Hospice, the St. Elizabeth Nurses, Cheryl — Aurie’s compassionate volunteer, and most of all, Lynn (PSW) for going above and beyond.
A funeral mass was held at St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church in Chesterville on Fri., March 3 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Beth Donovan Hospice.
The arrangements were entrusted to Byers Funeral Home in South Mountain (613-989-3836).
