CHESTERVILLE – It is safe to say rumours of the Chesterville Farmers’ Market’s demise was over the top, if not entirely overblown.

When longtime organizer Cheryl Beasley announced her intention to retire late last year, there was fear at the time the decision would lead to dissolution of the Saturday morning staple in the village.

A meeting last week marked a way forward for the market, with the creation of a new operating committee and the implementation of two lead organizers, Monique Morris and Courtney Heeney.

Morris is the head chef and owner of The Black Shallot, a Finch-based meal prep service, and Heeney is a local food advocate. The duo is in the midst of developing new ideas for the market, all of which will come together for the springtime opening in Chesterville’s core.
