Doris Ennis (nee Suffel), a wonderful mother, passed away after a very full and enjoyable life on Thurs., April 16, 2015.
Her husband of 63 years, Gordon, predeceased her in 2010. Doris was born in Mountain Township to Arnold and Christina Suffel, and remained a life-long resident of Dundas County. She is survived by her six children, Marilyn (Allan) Assance, George (Susan), David (Mary), Colleen (David) Howard, Janine (Chris) Christensen, and Arlene (Jamie) Sommerville. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Metcalfe, and sister-in-law, Lorna Suffel. She was predeceased by George (Geraldine) Suffel, Russell, Marion (Joe) Kilgour, and Rose (Bob) Thompson, and by Roy (Audrey) Ennis, Hilda (Lloyd) LaPorte, and Lena (Arrington) Stewart.
She derived tremendous enjoyment from her 15 grandchildren, aged 13 to 38, who will miss her love and wisdom. Eight great-grandchildren form part of her legacy.
She will be remembered for her constant and enduring love and support for her large family. She instilled a love of learning in her children, and encouraged an interest in music and community participation. She was a talented wordsmith, and her collection of letters to her sisters entitled “Roots & Wings” is still inspirational to young parents. Her commitment to the Winchester United Church was important, as were her friends at the Beachcroft, and her friends and neighbours encountered over her 91 years.
Her family wishes to thank Dr. David Flowers for his constant and unwavering support to her throughout many years.
Doris rested at Byers Funeral Home in South Mountain (613-989-3836) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Tues. April 21. The funeral service will be held today (Wed. April 22) at Winchester United Church, 519 St.Lawrence St., at 11 am.
Donations to Winchester United Church would be greatly appreciated by the family.
