FINCH – South Nation Conservation knows the floodwaters are bound to come after a winter of heavy snowfall and increased levels of ice.
Both have been above average this season.
With forecasted above-freezing temperatures, the snow will soon melt, which may cause flooding in low-lying areas and increased potential for ice jams.
Residents are advised to stay away from rivers as water flows may rapidly increase, and banks are likely to be unstable and slippery.
Those living in areas prone to flooding are urged to take necessary precautions, including assurance that sump pumps are in good working condition, downspouts are clear, items that could float away are secured, and emergency phone numbers are handy.
The conservation authority will continue to monitor the conditions.
