Marilyn Guy, a lifetime resident of Winchester, passed away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Wed., Oct. 18, 2017. She was 76.
She was born in Winchester on Nov. 25, 1940 to her parents, William and Helen Hitsman (nee Timmins).
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 55 years, Lloyd Guy; her children, Lorie Erwin (Brian), Mike Guy (Sharon Baker), and Heather Guy, all of Winchester; her grandchildren, Justin (Kelly), Sarah (Ryan), Megan, Kristina, Brittany (John), and Jason; her great-granddaughter, Lily; and her cousins, Graham McInnis (Alice) of Smiths Falls, Jane Hess of Williamsburg, and David Casselman (Carol) of Calabogie. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Marilyn started her career working in the office at Ault Foods Ltd. In May of 1962 she married Lloyd, and together they raised three children. In 1976, she returned to work at Canada Post where she stayed for 25 years. She was the friendly face at the post office, and made her presence known with her great whistling to everyone who came in.
Upon retirement, she devoted her life to her family and spending quality time with her grandchildren who meant the world to her. She will be sorely missed by her dear friends Anne Cross, Betty Skuce, and Freida Armstrong — together they were affectionately known as the “Golden Girls.” Marilyn will be fondly remembered for her laughter, her smile, her whistling and her quick wit. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, and an extra special “Nanny.”
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Fri., Oct. 20 from 6 to 9 pm. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Sat., Oct. 21 at 11 am with Rev. Christine Lowson officiating.
Donations to the Winchester United Church Building Fund or Winchester District Memorial Hospital would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
