WINCHESTER – The struggles continued for the Winchester Hawks as the team lost three games this past week.
The Hawks lost their Family Day (Feb. 19) tilt 4-2 against the Timberwolves, in Renfrew.
Winchester jumped ahead first when Christophe Lemay found the back of the Renfrew net. Joel and Joey Driscoll had the assists.
Renfrew tied the game up at 10:15 after Andrew McIntyre and Brandon English set up Connor Noonan for a tally.
Noonan struck again in the middle frame to put Renfrew ahead at 14:11. Renfrew’s Russel Denney increased the lead 20 seconds after, putting the Timberwolves up by two heading into the third.
Gabriel Morin got one back for the Hawks to put the team within a goal. However, Austin Scheuneman sealed the win on the Timberwolves power play at 15:23.
Rideaus 6 – Hawks 1
The visiting Westport Rideaus drubbed the Hawks 6-1 Fri., Feb. 16 at the Joel Steele Community Centre.
The Hawks’s lone goal came from Morin who was set up by Dillon Clemen and Graeme Buffone.
The Rideaus got goals from Cameron Sinclair (2), Austin Vincent, Marcus Dorsey, Ty Nicholson and James Prebble.
The Hawks were outshot in the game, 42 to 22.
Vikings 8 – Hawks 3
The Hawks travelled to Casselman to face the first-place Vikings Thurs., Feb. 15.
The Vikings sent plenty of rubber at the Hawks net, tallying 53 shots during the game.
Winchester jumped out to early first period lead after goals from Lemay and Buffone, but the lead would prove to be short-lived.
The Vikings struck with three goals in the middle frame from Danyk Drouin, Ethan Cahill and Sebastien Plante.
Driscoll scored the lone tally for the Hawks in the second period.
Casselman sealed the win in the third period when the Vikings scored five goals. Carter Mallete (2), Jason Cossette and Plante (2) netted Casselman’s final tallies.
The Hawks close out their season on the road, taking on Ottawa West Thurs., Feb. 22 and Westport Fri., Feb. 23.
