Rae Hummel, a resident of Dundas Manor Nursing Home in Winchester for the past four years, passed away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Fri., March 27, 2015. He was 86.
Rae was born in Williamsburg Township on Jan. 7, 1929 to his parents, Kenneth and Loressa Hummel (nee Hanna). In his early years, he worked at two cheese factories, Elma and Toyes Hill. After employment there, he went to work at Morrisburg Dairy. His last employment before retiring was at Upper Canada Village. Rae always enjoyed fishing and rabbit hunting, and going to the dances on Saturday nights.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie; his children, Shirley (Wayne) Stewart, Randy Walker (Kelly), Cathy (Marty) Little, Valerie (Bert) Armstrong, and Tracey Walker, all of Winchester; his siblings, Linda (Lorne) Johnston of Brinston, and Doris (Nathan) Beckstead of Oshawa. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances Disotell, his son, Jerry (Ruth), and his brother, Dalton. He will be sadly missed by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Tues., March 31 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Wed., April 1 at 1 pm with Rev. Christine Lowson officiating, followed by interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville. The pallbearers were Wayne Stewart, Randy Walker, Marty Little, Bert Armstrong, Tracey Walker, and Lorne Pemberton.
