Jean McMillan Broom
Jean McMillan Broom of Colonial Hill Retirement Center in JohnsonCity, Tenn., passed away Sat. May 27, 2006 at the Johnson CityMedical Centre following a brief illness. She was 88.
Mrs. Broom was born in Finch but lived most of her life in Massena,N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Muriel and Smith McMillan.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbandWalter Broom, and her sister Mae Marcellus.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Spence and son-in-law Dr.George Spence of Jonesborough, Tenn.; her son Dr. Timothy Sharlowand daughter-in-law Gretchen Ehle Sharlow of Elmira, N.Y.; fourgrandchildren: Kristen Sharlow Meyer of Elmira, N.Y., Paul Sharlowof Jamesville, N.Y., Dr. Robert Spence of Amherst, Ma., LindsaySpence of Charlotte, N.C.; nieces Lana Larsen of Finch, and CarolHull of Aylmer; and eight great-grandchildren.
During her years as a homemaker in Massena, she was an activevolunteer in the Seaway Garden Club, the Girl Scouts of America,the American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross.
She was very grateful to the many friends and staff at the ColonialHill Retirement Center who were instrumental in her happinessthe past four years.
A memorial service will be held in Finch at a later date.
