Jessie E. Mear
Jessie E. Mear of the Rome Home died Nov. 3, 2002, at Rome Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was 96.
She was born March 13, 1906 in Mountain Station, the daughter of Silas and Nancy Ann Hoy Bryan. She graduated from Ontario schools and moved to Rome, New York in 1929.
She married Glen A. Mear in the First United Methodist Church on Aug. 31, 1929. He died Sept. 25, 1984. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, the Queen Esther Rebekah Lodge #71 of Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and AARP of Rome.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Earnest F. and Carmellina Mear. Four grandchildren survive: Glen A. Mear, Utica, New York; Judith Condella, Virginia Beach, Virginia; Sandra Smith, Lebanon, Connecticut; Lynne Potoczyn, New Hartford, New York. She is also survived by great-grandsons Glen J. Mear and Ronald and Eric Smith, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by daughter Nancy E. Cottman, who died Nov.12, 1997; grandson Jeffrey A. Cottman, who died April 22, 1981; sister Kathleen VanDreaser; and brothers Ernest, Wilfred, William, George and Clifford Bryan.
Funeral services held at Prince-Boyd & Hyatt Home for Funerals. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
