Matthew Merkley, a lifetime resident of Chesterville, passed away suddenly at home on Sun., April 16, 2017. He was 29.
He was born in Winchester on Aug. 13, 1987 to his parents, Steven and Colleen Merkley (nee Fawcett). He attended Chesterville Public School and North Dundas District High School. After graduation, Matthew worked full-time in the family business for Dempster’s bread. During his downtime, Matthew enjoyed spending time with his friends.
He is survived by his parents, Steve and Colleen Merkley; his sister, Marissa; his paternal grandfather, Harold Merkley of Chesterville; and his maternal grandmother, Mary Fawcett (nee Milne) of Winchester. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Annie Merkley (nee Levere), and his maternal grandfather, Ralph Fawcett. Matthew will be fondly remembered by his girlfriend, Tracey Boisvenue of Cornwall, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A public graveside funeral service was held at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville on Sat., April 22 at 3 pm with Rev. Debbie Poirier officiating. A reception followed at Christ Church United in Chesterville. The pallbearers were Al Lalonde, Bobby Laframboise, Nick McNaughton, and Gino Myre.
