First meet of the season

OTTAWA – Track athletes at North Dundas District High School got their first taste of competition last week at the Carleton Ravens invitational meet.    

Despite the cold and rainy conditions in Ottawa Thurs., April 26, the school came home with a handful of top 10 finishes.

The results included:

• Shaina Vandemheen, first in the 100-metres and third in the 300-metre hurdles

• Zac Hamilton, second in the long jump

• Fabienne Puenter, fourth in the steeplechase

• Jessica Barkley, fourth in discus, and eighth in javelin

• Liam Antille, fifth in the 100-metre hurdles

• Curtis Bell, sixth in the 300-metre hurdles, and eighth in the 100-metres

• Ashley Wheeler, sixth in the steeplechase

• Alayna Gaudette, seventh in both javelin and discus, and eighth in shot put

• Ashley Wasylko-Fletcher, 10th in the 1,500-metres

The runners were on the track again yesterday (Tues., May 1) at Russell High School, and are potentially competing in Ottawa Fri., May 4.

The SD&G Championship is to be hosted in Ottawa Tues., May 8, and EOSSAA will be hosted in Kingston Thurs., May 24 and Fri., May 25.

East Regionals will also be held in Kingston, Wed., May 30 to Fri., June 1, and OFSAA is to take place in North York Thurs., June 7 to Sat., June 9.

NDDHS’ runners have a good shot at representing the school at the highest level.
