Nov. 30, 1934 – Oct. 3, 2018

Roy Porteous passed away after a very recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer on Wed., Oct. 3, 2018 in his 84th year.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kay (nee Fennell), married for 58 years, after a courtship of seven years, which began at WHS. Roy was the proud and much-loved father of Peter and Nancy, and the fun-loving grandfather to CJ, Jake, and Tanner Porteous (Halifax); and Amber-Dawn, Christian, and Josh Davison (Ottawa). Roy was the brother to Bill Porteous, Lois McMaster, and Dorothy (Dot) Kennedy (deceased). He was Uncle Roy to Bill’s family – Pattie, Jeff, Steven, and Karon.
A life-long resident of Vernon, his career focused on W.J. Porteous & Sons (IGA, M&M, and later FoodTown). After Bill and Roy sold the third generation family business in 1989, Roy enjoyed working for StarChoice Satellite, Drewery Pontiac Buick, and then for 23 years, Rideau Auctions, where he and a great network of buddies shuttled cars, swapped stories, and sipped coffee. Roy was a contributor to the wider community, including as a 57-year member of the Metcalfe and District Lions Club. Cottage life on the Rideau with family and friends held a special place in Roy’s heart.
A Celebration of Life and Thanksgiving was held at Daley Family Funeral Home on Tues., Oct. 9, led by family friend and former minister, Rev. Kathy Petrie, with inurnment at Springhill Cemetery in Metcalfe.
