MORRISBURG – Jaymen Heuff took a feed sent to him by Mason Carr and Emytt Fetterly and buried the GWG with 10:30 left in the final frame as the South Dundas Bantam Rep “B” Lions nipped the visiting Ogdensburg Leafs 5-4.

The win, registered on Mon., Nov. 20, lifted the Lions Upper Canada Minor Hockey League record to 5-4-0, good enough for 10 points and a tie for fourth place with the Cornwall Colts (5-5-0). The Char-Lan Rebels (9-2-0) top the 12-team division standings with 18 points.

Next week (Mon., Dec. 4), the Lions will host the Smiths Falls Bears (4-3-1) at Winchester’s Joel Steele Community Centre at 7 pm. The next evening (Tues., Dec. 5) they will be in Prescott to meet the South Grenville Rangers (2-4-0).

Ogdensburg opened the scoring, but fell behind 2-1 thanks to goals by Carr (Chase Berube, Joshua Broad at 2:32) and Lucas Menard (Heuff, Nolan Henry at 0:27).

Second-period tallies by Maclean Machan (Berube, Carr at 12:46) and Heuff (Menard, Keiran MacQueen at 11:22) opened up a 4-1 lead for the Lions.

The New Yorkers cracked back-to-back goals early in the third period and sliced their deficit to 4-3. Heuff fired home what would prove to be the GWG at 10:30 only to have the visitors close the final gap to 5-4 cashing their second PPG of the period.

Brendan Shaver was the winning ’tender.
