Lily Rose Spong

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful Mother, Baba, and great-Baba, Lily Rose Spong (nee Wright) on Thurs., March 2, 2017.
Mom was born in Moose Jaw, Sask. to her parents, Frederick Wright and Lily Needham Wright Ross. She was one of seven children, and is survived by her sister, Noreen (Eugene) Walker.
Mom very proudly attended the Academy of Our Lady of Sion all girl’s school in Moose Jaw.  After graduation, she moved to Hamilton where she worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Canada. She met and married Lorne Spong. They raised their family in Hamilton Mountain, and were the owners of Fenworth Travel and Hi-Light Tours. They enjoyed many years of travelling before Dad’s passing in 1995. She was a long-standing member of St. Michael’s Anglican Church. She served as the directress of the Altar Guild for many years, and always held her church family close to her heart.
She was a wonderful, fun, and loving mother to Paul (Gail) and Nancy(Bob). She was the cherished Baba to Adam (Linda), Amanda (Daniel), Nicholas (Meaghan), and Stephanie, and a much loved great-Baba to Scarlet, Hailey, Alex, Brianna, and Mackenzie.
A memorial service will be held at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, 1188 Fennell Ave. E. in Hamilton on Sun., May 21 at 1 pm. Internment at South Gower Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Winchester District Memorial Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
The arrangements are entrusted to Byers Funeral Home in South Mountain (613-989-3836)
